VA Disability Combined Rating & What-If Calculator
VA Disability Combined Rating & What-If Calculator
Estimate your current combined VA disability rating, model hypothetical claims, and see the monthly compensation impact — all using VA's actual math, not simple addition.
Import from your VA disability rating letter (PDF)
Upload the "VA disability rating letter" PDF a veteran can download from va.gov (Disability > View your VA disability rating). We'll scan it for condition names and percentages and let you review before adding anything.
Select a body part, then a rating, then click Add. Right/left arm and leg ratings are automatically combined using VA's 10% bilateral factor when you have at least one right-side and one left-side extremity rating.
Other conditions (head, neck, back, mental health already have dedicated fields above — use "Other" for anything else, such as skin, respiratory, digestive, etc.), or use the PDF import above to pre-fill this list.
2. What-If Scenario Builder
Add hypothetical ratings on top of your current ones to see how a pending or future claim could change your combined rating and pay.
3. Dependent Status
Used to calculate your monthly compensation amount (only affects pay at 30% or higher — 10% and 20% pay a flat rate regardless of dependents).
💡 Many Veterans don't realize this: if your child is 18–23 and enrolled full-time in school (including college), VA still counts them as a dependent for additional compensation — it isn't limited to kids under 18. Use the "Children 18–23, full-time school" field below if this applies to you.
Includes college — often overlooked, but VA pays for this.
Simplification: when a Veteran has more than one child, VA's base "with children" rate covers one child; each additional child is added at the applicable under-18 or school-age increment. This calculator assumes the first child counted is an under-18 child when both types are present. See the written summary for details.

There may be additional claims, secondary conditions, or documentation gaps worth reviewing. Veritas Ratings was built by veterans who were once in your shoes and are now rated at 100% — our own team used this exact process to get there.
Disclaimer: This calculator is provided for general informational and educational purposes only. It uses VA's published combined ratings formula, bilateral factor rule, and 2026 compensation rate tables (effective December 1, 2025), but it is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Department of Veterans Affairs, and results are estimates only. It does not account for every VA rule (e.g., special monthly compensation, individual unemployability, birth-defect or DIC benefits) and should not be relied upon as an official rating or benefits determination. PDF import reads text directly from the file in your browser only — nothing is uploaded to a server — but the extraction is automated and may misread condition names or percentages depending on the letter's exact formatting; always review the parsed results against the original PDF before relying on them. For an authoritative rating or payment amount, consult VA.gov or a qualified accredited representative.
